The Zimbabwe Republic Police  has launched a concerted effort to restore order in the capital city, Harare, ahead of the upcoming SADC Summit. In a bid to present a clean and orderly image to regional leaders, authorities have initiated 'Operation Guta Ngarigare Rakachena' targeting vendors, car wash operators, and illegal taxi operators, commonly known as 'mushikashika'.

The operation involves a strict enforcement of city regulations, with unlicensed vendors facing the prospect of arrest. A warning system has been implemented, with first-time offenders receiving yellow cards and repeat offenders facing custodial sentences.

Illegal pirate taxis have also been placed on notice, with a crackdown on touts and unauthorized operations. The police are determined to curb the chaos caused by these unregulated transport services and ensure the smooth flow of traffic.

Harare's streets have become increasingly congested due to the proliferation of informal businesses, which has led to safety concerns and traffic disruptions. The upcoming SADC Summit has provided an impetus for the authorities to address these issues and create a more conducive environment for both residents and visitors.

As Zimbabwe prepares to host the high-profile regional gathering, the government is keen to showcase the country's ability to maintain law and order.
