Dynamos FC’s struggles continued to deepen yesterday as they were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw by a rebuilding Bulawayo Chiefs side at Barbourfields Stadium. The result further exacerbates the Harare giants’ woes, who have now managed to win only three of their last ten matches.
The Glamour Boys, once a formidable force in Zimbabwean football, have found themselves in a precarious position, with fans growing increasingly impatient with the team’s inconsistent performances. Yesterday’s match against a Chiefs side decimated by player departures in the July transfer window offered an opportunity for Dynamos to gain ground, but they failed to capitalize on their advantage.
Issa Sadiki’s early strike in the second minute ignited hopes of a comfortable victory for the visitors, but Chiefs quickly responded, with young Panashe Shoko equalizing in the 26th minute. Despite enjoying periods of dominance, Dynamos were unable to find a breakthrough in the second half, with Chiefs goalkeeper Prosper Matutu producing a crucial save to deny substitute Valentine Kadonzvo.
The result leaves Dynamos in seventh position on the league table with 30 points from 22 matches, a far cry from the title aspirations that once characterized the club. Their performance has also cast a shadow over their upcoming Caf Confederation Cup clash against ZESCO United in two weeks’ time.
Disgruntled Dynamos fans made their feelings known after the match, demanding answers from coach Genesis Mangombe about the team’s continued struggles. The pressure is mounting on the gaffer to turn things around and restore the club’s former glory.
