Government is set to establish an Inter-Ministerial Taskforce that will identify owners of idle and abandoned industrial spaces.
The taskforce team will focus on the identification of owners of the properties, that include empty shells, rail infrastructure among many others.
However, it has not been revealed what the results of the identification process will result in, with reports suggesting that authorities seek to make use of the spaces to revive industries through out sourced investments.
Addressing members of the media during Tuesday’s post-Cabinet press briefing, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services minister, Jenfan Muswere said that government has been on the look out for the abandoned spaces which have significantly increased.
“Cabinet noted that there is significant amount of idle and abandoned industrial space in the form of empty shells, rail infrastructure, and other properties that belong to Private and Public entities which have been abandoned by their owners.
"An Inter- Ministerial Task Force will be established to focus on coordinating the identification of idle and abandoned industrial infrastructure spaces.”
