Murder suspect Peter Dube’s trial date has been set for September 9, 2024, at the Gweru High Court.
Dube is facing two counts of murder and two of attempted murder.
The businessman was arrested and detained in custody after three years on the run, with the courts denying him bail for the past year.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority, Dube is alleged to have been involved in an altercation with Shelton Chiduku back in April 2022, whom he accused of having an affair with his second wife, Nyasha Nharongo.
Accusations are that the argument took a dark turn resulting in Dube shooting Chiduku, who died on the scene, proceeding to also shoot Gamuchirai Mudungwe, his wife’s best friend, who also succumbed to the shooting.
He went further to shoot his wife, Nyasha and his sister-in-law, Nyaradzo Nharingo, who both survived their wounds following emergency treatment at Gweru General Hospital.
“Peter Dube who is facing two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder was indicted to the High Court sitting in Gweru. The trial will begin on the 9th of September 2024,” reads the statement.
Dube, who had been on the run for nearly three years, was arrested at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport in April after he was deportation from Mozambique where he had been extradited to from Ireland after producing fake documentation purporting he was Mozambican.
