Zimbabwean football champions, Herentals Queens, have departed for Malawi to represent the country in the CAF Women’s Champions League Cosafa Qualifiers. The tournament kicks off tomorrow at Mpira Stadium.
Drawn into Group A, the Lady Students will face Namibia's FC Ongos Ladies in their opening match. Subsequent games will see them battle it out against Zambia's Green Buffaloes and South Africa's University of Western Cape.
Team manager Shylet Chikonyora expressed confidence in the team's preparedness. "We are glad that we have a clean bill of health heading out to Malawi. Everyone is ready and raring to go," she said.
While acknowledging the tough competition, Chikonyora emphasized the team's determination to excel. “This, being our first continental campaign, we will be pragmatic about our modus operandi. We know that our overall goal is to do well and win the tournament, but we will take it game by game,” she added.
The Lady Students are eager to make a strong impression on the African stage and bring the championship title home. With a focus on teamwork and a winning mentality, Herentals Queens are poised to fly the Zimbabwean flag high in Malawi
