Caritas Zimbabwe has been hailed for its work in emergency preparedness and response, water sanitation and hygiene, food security and sustainable livelihood and sustainable community development among other areas.
Speaking at the Roman Catholic Church Caritas golden jubilee celebrations at Silveira House in Chishawasha, Harare recently Vice President General (Retired) Constantino Chiwenga - who was the guest of honour - applauded Caritas Zimbabwe for being an all-whether friend of government.
“The organisation actively and responsibly responded to cyclones and other disasters in the country, supplementing government efforts to save lives in times of disasters and the acts of love,” Chiwenga said.
Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Conference (ZCBC) Secretary-General Father Fradereck Chiromba gave special mention to those who have been supporting the organisation in the midst of difficulties and emergencies like droughts, cyclones, tropical depressions and epidemics for the past five decades.
“May the commemoration and celebration reinvigorate and further stimulate this effort to service of charity and solidarity under the guidance of the Catholic Church’s rich doctrine and tradition for Caritas has brought a glimmer of hope of every person it serves, while expressing my best wishes and congratulations to Caritas Zimbabwe and all of us,” Father Chiromba said.
He also said he hopes the occasion would raise awareness and educate the public on Caritas activities in an accountable, orderly and transparent way and engage partners for relationship building, new sponsorship opportunities and networking.
Father Chiromba acknowledged the solidarity and support given by various Caritas international member organization, including Commission for Instruments and Methods of Observation (CIMOs), United Nations (UN), Embassies and other funding and network partners.
Caritas Zimbabwe has been supplementing government in fighting poverty, exclusion, intolerance and discrimination.
