The annual Bokola Film Festival is set to return on August 24th at Moto Republik, bringing together a diverse lineup of films and interactive events under the theme "Reel Green."
The festival, now in its fourth year, is dedicated to nurturing inclusivity and addressing the urgent climate crisis facing Zimbabwe and the world. Organized by Accountability Lab in collaboration with Magamba Network, Bokola aims to showcase films by and about underrepresented communities, empowering emerging filmmakers through training and mentorship.
One of the highlights of this year's festival is the debut screening of two films produced by the 2024 Film Fellowship Fellows: "Fragile Existence" and "Water Thief." These films explore pressing social issues, including the challenges faced by people with albinism and the water crisis in Bulawayo.
In addition to the screenings, the festival will feature a range of interactive activities, including workshops, panel discussions, and Q&A sessions with filmmakers. Attendees can also enjoy live performances, a vibrant marketplace, virtual reality gaming, and a family-friendly atmosphere.
The "Reel Green" theme is more than just a slogan; it is a call to action. Bokola Festival aims to spark conversations, ignite creative solutions, and enable communities to build resilience in the face of climate change.
