The Sports and Recreation Commission has announced that the rehabilitation of the National Sports Stadium is on track to meet CAF minimum standards by the end of the year.
SRC board chairman Gerald Mlotshwa and director-general Elta Nengomasha provided an update on the renovations taking place at the facility. The first batch of 15,000 bucket seats has arrived in Beira, Mozambique, and will soon be transported to Harare.
Mlotshwa stated that the target is to complete all the work by December, but significant work will still need to be done on the pitch itself. Nengomasha elaborated on other areas that have been addressed, including a new perimeter fence, water reticulation, turnstiles, CCTV equipment, generators, and new floodlights.
Due to the lack of a CAF-certified stadium in Zimbabwe, the Warriors have been forced to play their home Africa Cup of Nations matches in other countries. Next month, the Zimbabwe senior national men's team will host Cameroon in Uganda, followed by matches against Kenya and Namibia in October and November, respectively.
