The Zimbabwe National Army has won a mining ownership case against RioZim involving over 200 mines, including ones in Darwendale in Mashonaland West, with the ruling also involving costs to the mining company after it failed to prove valid mining claims within the designated military zone.
In its argument, RioZim contested the designation of the land as a military zone, while the Rusununguko Nkululeko and falcon Resources, a company linked to the army continued mining activities in the area.
In its ruling, the High Court found that RioZim’s application claiming ownership of the area, including Block 42 and 43 claims at Wendale, lacked authority coming from a deponent acting on behalf of the company, affirming arguments brought forth by the defense minister.
