Five arrested for killing a mentally ill patient

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has arrested five suspects in connection with a murder case that occurred in Wedza.

The suspects, identified as Peter Mandeya 65, Simbarashe Mandeya, 40, Felix Chigodora, 24, Brain Mandeya, 21, and Munashe Chigodora, 25, are accused of brutally assaulting 37-year-old, Cadilla Njodzi, a known mental patient.

This vicious attack took place on July 30, 2024, at Peter Mandeya’s residence in Chihowa Village, Svosve, after Njodzi allegedly caused damage by destroying a wooden door and a rear mirror of a Nissan Hardbody vehicle.

Enraged by the destruction, the suspects reportedly used switches and booted feet to inflict severe injuries all over Njodzi’s body.

Despite being rushed to a local hospital for treatment, the victim succumbed to his injuries on July 31, 2024, leading to the suspects’ arrest.

The case has sparked outrage within the community and underscores the urgent need for better handling of individuals with mental health issues.

Community members with additional information regarding the incident are encouraged to come forward and assist law enforcement officials in their inquiries.
