Chitungwiza residents are pinning their hopes on a new investor, Wistmer Investments, led by Prophet Walter Magaya, to end their long-standing water woes.

Despite skepticism from some residents, Magaya has assured the community that he is committed to improving service delivery in Chitungwiza. The government has engaged Wistmer to take charge of water provision, sewer reticulation, garbage collection, and other key services.

"I want to assure Chitungwiza residents that we are going to provide a reliable supply of potable water, their challenges will be a thing of the past," Magaya said.

The town has been grappling with water shortages for years, leading to a decline in living standards and public health concerns. Residents have resorted to unsafe alternatives like open defecation and the bucket system, exposing them to waterborne diseases.

"It's a living nightmare," said Mbuya Five, a resident of Zengeza 1. "The council doesn't seem to care. We've reported the issue countless times, but nothing gets done."

Magaya's announcement has sparked optimism among the residents. They are hopeful that his investment will bring about a much-needed solution to the water crisis.

"We are living in a desperate situation," said Mary Munyuki, a resident of St. Mary's. "Our toilets are overflowing, and there's no running water. Weeks go by without a single drop!"

Other residents echoed Munyuki's concerns, sharing stories of sewage overflowing into their yards and broken pipes.

"The minute we get some water supply, sewage overflows everywhere!" said Mike Benhura, a resident of Manyame Park. "It's like a cruel joke. We can't win. No water is a problem, and having water creates another problem."
