A 35-year-old woman, Prosperity Hobyani, 35, was sentenced to three years imprisonment for kidnapping a seven-day-old baby from his mother.
Hobyani appeared before the Chiredzi Magistrate’s court on kidnapping charges.
The allegations states that on September 2, 2024, the accused met the child’s mother returning home from getting her baby vaccinated at Chiredzi General Hospital.
They walked together to Nyorenyore Business Centre where the mother intended to get transport back home in Mkwanise.
Hobyani persuaded her to buy her a drink from one of the shops and went away away with the baby whiile the mother was inside.
The accused person pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to four years in imprisonment of which one year was suspended.
She will serve three years effectively.
