A 34-year-old man, Simbarashe Danga, has been charged with fraud after allegedly issuing a fake fuel coupon at Zuva Petroleum Marimba.
Danga, a resident of Warren Park D, appeared before Magistrate Ethel Chichera at the Harare Magistrates' Court, where he was granted bail set at US$50. His trial is scheduled for October 1, 2024.
According to the State, represented by prosecutor Polite Chikiwa, the incident took place on September 13, 2024. A commuter omnibus, driven by Gachira Honda, arrived at Zuva Petroleum Marimba to refuel. Honda presented a 20-litre fuel coupon, which was green in color and bore the serial number 187002973429.
However, fuel attendant Lilian Dhifi became suspicious, as Zuva’s diesel coupons are typically brown. After scanning the coupon and finding it invalid, she alerted her manager. When questioned, Honda implicated Danga as the individual who had supplied him with the coupon.
Following the revelation, Danga was contacted to come to the fuel station, where he was subsequently arrested. Zuva Petroleum Private Limited, represented by Davis Cipinda, is the complainant in the case.
Danga is set to reappear in court to face the fraud charges on October 1.
