A 41-year-old stepfather who allegedly raped his 8-year-old stepdaughter after the mother had gone on night duty has been taken to court.
The accused persons appeared at the Harare Magistrates' Courts charged with rape.
He was ordered to apply for bail at the High Court and will appear in court on October 3, 2024.
The State alleges that on September 10 this year, the complainant was at Ngorima's home where she was staying with both Ngorima and her mother.
It is alleged that the accused came home drunk during the night when the complainant was asleep with her cousin brother and raped the complainant.
On September 11 in the morning, the complainant tried to tell her mother what had happened, but the complainant did not pay attention and opted to sleep.
The court was informed that on September 11, the complainant's mother as usual, left home for a night duty, leaving the complainant at home.
Later in the evening, the accused came home and took advantage of the complainant's mother's absence and raped the complainant again.
The complainant did not tell anyone until she went back to her grandmother's house where she told her cousin brother what had happened.
The cousin brother informed his aunt and grandmother that the complainant was raped.
On September 16, the grandmother accompanied the complainant to Sally Mugabe Hospital where the complainant was medically examined by a doctor.
