President Emmerson Mnangagwa has declined to attend this year’s United Nations General Assembly in New York, USA, citing his tight schedule of events during the last quarter of the year.
In a statement, Deputy Chief Secretary, Presidential Communications in the Office of the President and Cabinet, George Charamba said that, "In light of a dense programme in the last quarter of 2024, His Excellency the President, Dr E.D Mnangagwa, will not attend this year's United Nations General National Assembly in New York, USA. His statement will be delivered by Hon. F.M. Shava, the minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade who is already in New York for the Assembly.”
The UN assembly is one of a few events that gives President Mnangagwa leeway to travel to America, since he is part of the group under Sanctions.
