A 21-year-old man from Chinhoyi, Knowledge Jani, was sentenced to prison after being charged with malicious damage to property. The case was heard yesterday in the Chinhoyi Magistrate’s Court.
Jani was accused of setting fire to his father’s property on April 22, 2024, following a heated argument at the complainant’s home. In a fit of rage, he used fuel from a vehicle to start the fire, resulting in the destruction of a house valued at US$14 000.
Jani was handed a 4-year prison sentence, with 1 year suspended, leaving him to serve an effective 3-year term.
