A man who allegedly implicated a security guard in a theft after stealing from the company he was guarding has been arrested.
Fidelis Matimba, 28, appeared before the Harare Magistrates' Court on charges of theft. He is due back in court on October 15, 2024.
The complainant in the case is Johnson Design and Installation, represented by Douglas Mhembere.
According to court records, the incident occurred on September 23, 2024, at Forge Hardware and Tools Construction Site in Borrowdale, Harare. The complainant received a call from Shame Watosvorwa, an employee of Squad Security Company, reporting that Matimba had stolen electrical cables in collaboration with a security guard, Abraham Kayinanga.
Mhembere immediately rushed to the scene, where he discovered that cables worth US$744 had been cut. During his investigation, he spoke to Faster Masiyambiri, who explained that he had discovered the cut cables while taking over duty from Watosvorwa. Masiyambiri informed his supervisor, who conducted a site inspection and managed to apprehend Watosvorwa. However, Matimba had fled the scene.
Matimba was later arrested in Hatcliffe and taken into police custody for further investigation.
