A man accused of raping a woman after claiming he was helping her find a job has appeared in court.
Nomatter Chiku, 29, was brought before the Harare Magistrates' Courts on charges of rape. He was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
The victim, in this case, is an 18-year-old woman.
According to the State, on October 5, 2024, Chiku messaged the complainant, informing her that he had found a job for her at Kemba Shops.
Later that day, the complainant went to Chiku’s residence. Chiku allegedly took her to the shop, where he claimed a vacancy was available.
However, upon arrival, they discovered the position had already been filled.
The complainant expressed her desire to return home, but Chiku convinced her to accompany him back to his place.
While the complainant waited at the gate, Chiku went inside his room. After about an hour, he reportedly came out and forcibly dragged her inside.
Despite her attempts to resist, Chiku increased the volume of his speaker once they entered the room, locked the door, and raped her without protection.
Following the assault, the complainant confided in a neighbor, who informed her mother. The victim was then escorted to the police to report the crime.
