In an incident that raises the question of the quality of persnonnel employed by security companies, thieves allegedly made off with US$20 000 from a transit van.

According to the police, on October 16, 2024, in Masvingo, a cash-in-transit vehicle belonging to a private security company was transporting cash from Beitbridge to Mutare.

The allegedly crew offered a lift to two unidentified passengers at Lutumba Service Centre and Machiloni in Beitbridge.

These passengers dropped off at Rutenga and Ngundu.

At Ngundu, presumably after dropping off the second passenger, the crew discovered that a locked metal cash box containing USD 20,000 had been stolen.

In another theft case, in Belmont, Bulawayo, on October 15, armed with pistols and a pick, a group of seven unknown male suspects stormed a steel company, overpowering two security guards and 12 workers on duty.

The robbers tied the victims with shoelaces and struck one of the workers on the head with a pick after an attempted escape.

The suspects stole USD 32,500 and ZAR 300, along with valuables and cell phones from the workers.

ZRP is appealing to members of the public for any information that may assist in their investigations.
