A socio-economic justice campaigner has filed a lawsuit against the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission and the National Social Security Authority , seeking to compel ZACC to investigate an opaque land acquisition transaction by NSSA.
Munashe Masiyiwa, represented by Obey Shava of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, filed the application at Harare High Court on October 10, 2024. Masiyiwa alleges that NSSA purchased 526 hectares of land in Chegutu in 2003 under suspicious circumstances.
According to the Auditor-General's annual report for 2023, NSSA has not recovered the land despite being a significant investment. Masiyiwa's attempts to have NSSA investigate the matter were unsuccessful, prompting him to turn to ZACC.
Masiyiwa argues that ZACC's inaction in the face of reasonable suspicion of corruption is a breach of its constitutional mandate. He seeks an order from the High Court directing ZACC to investigate the circumstances surrounding the land acquisition and make its findings public within 30 days.
