The trial of fraud-accused businessmen Moses Mpofu and Mike Chimombe has been postponed to October 23, 2024, following a request from their lawyers for more time to prepare their defense.

The lawyers informed the court that they had requested additional documents from the State but had only received a partial response. They argued that they needed more time to discuss these documents with the State before proceeding with the trial.

Judge Pisirayi Kwenda granted the postponement, emphasizing the importance of resolving these housekeeping matters promptly. He also recommended that the lawyers meet and address the outstanding issues before the trial begins.

The lawyers representing Mpofu and Chimombe also indicated that their clients intend to raise constitutional issues during the trial, alleging violations of their rights during the arrest and subsequent proceedings. They hinted at the possibility of referring the matter to the Constitutional Court if necessary.

The trial will now run from October 23 to 25 on a continuous roll
