The City of Harare has taken decisive action to address the growing traffic congestion caused by illegal public transport ranks. A public notice issued by the Council outlines the measures being implemented to restore order in the city's transportation system.
The council has identified key roads and areas where immediate changes will take effect. Commuter omnibuses operating along Sam Nujoma Street are required to relocate to designated ranks at Coventry Road and Mbare Musika. Buses heading for Bulawayo must also use these designated ranks instead of stopping at unauthorized locations.
The City of Harare has specified official commuter omnibus terminuses, including Market Square, Charge Office, Copacabana, S. Muzenda (4th Street), and Rezende North. Previously established ZUPCO ranks have been decommissioned.
The council urges all registered public transport operators to adhere to these designated ranks and ensure their vehicles are registered with both the City of Harare and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development. By implementing these measures, the City of Harare aims to improve traffic flow and enhance the overall transportation experience for residents and visitors.
