A 37-year-old man, Tafadzwa Waile, has been remanded in custody after appearing at the Harare Magistrates' Courts, facing charges of unlawful detention and rape.
The complainant in the case is a 20-year-old woman who reportedly sought employment to support her child, as her husband was unable to provide for their needs. She approached a friend for assistance, who then introduced her to Waile. According to the State, Waile and the complainant allegedly made an arrangement in which Waile would help support her child in exchange for a sexual relationship.
Waile initially provided the complainant and her friend with US$10 and later invited her to his residence, promising an additional US$60 to support her child. On September 30, the complainant visited Waile’s shack, where events reportedly took a disturbing turn.
The State alleges that Waile assaulted the complainant multiple times, striking her with open hands, and then refused to let her leave the following day.
After the assault, Waile allegedly forced the complainant into unprotected sexual intercourse without her consent. The case was reported after the complainant managed to escape with assistance and filed a report at Avondale Police Station.
