Miss South Africa 2024, Mia le Roux, has officially withdrawn from the Miss Universe competition, citing health challenges as the reason.

The announcement was made by the Miss South Africa organisation on Friday morning. Le Roux had already traveled to Mexico two weeks ago to represent her country in the global pageant, which concludes with its finale on Sunday morning, CAT time.

Expressing her gratitude and explaining her decision, Le Roux stated:

“I am profoundly thankful for the unwavering support from South Africa during my time at Miss Universe. Making this decision has been incredibly challenging, knowing the dreams and hopes that have been placed upon me.

“However, I am deeply grateful to have the opportunity to focus on my health and recovery so that I may continue to serve my country with full strength.”

The Miss South Africa organisation praised her resilience and determination, noting her historic achievement as the first Miss South Africa living with a physical disability.

“Her health and well-being are our utmost priority, and we stand by her side, dedicated to ensuring she regains her strength and returns to full health. Our hearts are with her as she takes the necessary steps toward recovery,” they said in a statement.

Throughout her reign, Le Roux has been open about the challenges she faced growing up with profound hearing loss, a condition she was diagnosed with at just one year old.

She relies on a cochlear implant to assist her in perceiving sound, which has been instrumental in her journey to success.
