Man remanded in custody for raping ex-girlfriend

A 33-year-old man, Prince Tete, of Eastlea, appeared at the Harare Magistrates' Courts charged with rape.

Tete allegedly raped his ex-girlfriend, 20, imposing that she was his wife officially. He was remanded in custody.

The State alleges that on October 13,2024, Tete went to the complainant's workplace without informing her together with his brother with the aim of having a reconciliation with her and went on to propose marriage to the complainant since they had long separated.

The complainant told him that she needed time to think about it.

The court was informed that the complainant was about to knock off duty, and Tete offered transport to her, and on the way, he allegedly diverted the route and heard towards his homestead at 25 Wemble Eastlea, Harare.

The complainant asked the reason for diverting to his house, and Tete told her that from that day, she was officially his wife.

When they arrived, Tete held the complainant's hand and led her to his room at the backyard. The complainant was begging him to take her home since it was late but he refused.

When they entered into the room, Tete sat on the bed, and the complainant sat on the chair next to the bed. The court heard that Tete fell fell asleep on the bed, and the complainant started to fall asleep, and she sat on the floor.

Around 1 am , Tete woke up and demanded sex from the complainant who refused, and they got into a misunderstanding.

It is alleged that Tete went on to remove his clothes and grabbed the complainant, who was now sitting on the floor to the bed and forcefully removed her clothes and had unprotected sex three times throughout the night

The next morning, on October 14, Tete allegedly raped her for the fourth time without her consent and left the house.

The complainant left Tete's house and went to her home to collect her statement of entry since she was starting her final exams that day.
