Magwizi not on US sanction list

Zim Now Writer

Aspiring ZIFA President Nqobile Magwizi, who also serves as a board member of Banket United FC, was cleared of any wrongdoing after his name was removed from the United States sanctions list in March this year.

Despite recent attempts by rival ZIFA presidential candidates to tarnish his reputation by claiming he was still under US sanctions, a simple fact-check has revealed that Magwizi is indeed in the clear.

According to the US Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), Magwizi's name was removed from the Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons List (SDN List) on March 4, 2024, after he made a successful appeal .

The Notice of OFAC Actions states that Magwizi is no longer subject to the blocking provisions of the Orders and has been removed from the SDN List.

This development is a significant boost to Magwizi's bid for the ZIFA presidency, as he seeks to bring his passion for sports and experience as a board member of Banket United FC to the helm of Zimbabwean football.

As Magwizi continues to campaign for the top job, his focus on upgrading the National Sports Stadium, including the recent acquisition of bucket seats sourced from China, demonstrates his commitment to developing Zimbabwean sports infrastructure .

With his name cleared and his vision for Zimbabwean football intact, Magwizi is poised to make a strong bid for the ZIFA presidency.
