The National Blood Services Zimbabwe has achieved a milestone in 2024, surpassing blood collection figures from 2023 and setting a new benchmark for life-saving efforts.

By November 2024, NBSZ had collected 71,544 units of whole blood, achieving 88% of its annual target of 80,970 units. The organization also recorded an impressive 81% achievement of its larger annual target of 88,430 units. These figures underline the success of this year’s blood drive campaigns and the unwavering support of donors across the nation.

With the festive season approaching, NBSZ has set an additional target of 7,460 units to meet the anticipated surge in demand due to increased accidents and emergencies during the holidays.

NBSZ has intensified its efforts through 85 “Pledge 2025 Blood Drives,” targeting both corporate and community participation. Walk-in donations are welcomed at all static clinics, except the Masvingo branch, with clinics remaining operational throughout the festive season except on public holidays (December 25, December 26, 2024, and January 1, 2025).

Mobile blood drives will also be conducted at various locations, with details shared on NBSZ’s social media platforms.

Expressing her gratitude, NBSZ CEO Ms. Lucy Marawa said, “We are incredibly thankful to all donors and partners who made this achievement possible. Your contributions are vital in saving lives.”

Ms. Marawa also encouraged continued support: “Every drop counts. Your donations can make a significant difference in someone’s life.”

The organization remains committed to ensuring a steady supply of life-saving blood products and urges Zimbabweans to participate in the ongoing campaigns to save lives during this critical time.
