A man who falsely claimed to be a lawyer and promised to secure employment for a university graduate has been charged with fraud and forgery after allegedly pocketing thousands of dollars from unsuspecting clients.

Prosper Manyange, 26, appeared at the Harare Magistrate’s Court facing two counts of fraud and forgery.

He is set to appear on August 13, 2025, for a bail application.

The court was informed that in April, Manyange deceived a complainant by claiming to be a practicing lawyer.

The complainant engaged him to provide legal services to recover US$30 000 owed by a debtor.

Manyange allegedly collected US$3 100, claiming the money was for legal fees and other required payments at the High Court.

The complainant later discovered that Manyange was not a lawyer and that the court documents he had provided were fraudulent.

As a result, the complainant lost US$3,100.

The court also heard that on May 12, Manyange forged court documents by affixing a counterfeit High Court date stamp and a fake court case number, HCH482/25.

He then presented these fraudulent documents to the complainant, falsely representing that the case was before High Court Judge Dube-Banda J.

Additionally, on November 21, Manyange falsely promised another complainant that he could facilitate her employment after learning she had a degree in psychology.

He told her to pay US$145 to enable the facilitation process.

The complainant transferred US$145 to Manyange’s EcoCash number, after which he became evasive.
