Born in Harare and raised in Murehwa, Coach Simbarashe Dedza, 33, has carved an inspiring path in football, excelling both as a player and as a coach. With a passion for the game ignited during his early years, his story is a testament to determination, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to the sport. Transitioning seamlessly from a promising player to an accomplished coach, Simbarashe has left an indelible mark on Zimbabwean football, earning accolades and inspiring those around him.

Simbarashe’s professional football journey began in 2009 when he joined Herentals FC. Over the next six years, he played a pivotal role in the club’s success, showcasing his skills on the pitch while contributing to the team’s growth. His time with Herentals FC was transformative, providing a solid foundation for his future in football.

“I’ll always cherish my years as a player at Herentals. It was there that I truly understood the discipline and dedication required to succeed in football,” Simbarashe reflects.

By the time he hung up his boots in 2015, he had not only earned numerous accolades with Herentals but also developed a deep understanding of the game’s strategic aspects, laying the groundwork for his coaching career.

The Transition to Coaching

In 2015, Simbarashe embraced a new challenge, becoming a junior coach at Herentals FC. Under the mentorship of esteemed coaches Celestino Paul Benza and Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva, he refined his coaching philosophy and leadership skills. Their guidance helped him evolve into a confident, tactical, and visionary coach.

Simbarashe’s influence extended beyond the senior team. He played a crucial role in promoting Herentals FC to Zimbabwe’s Premier Soccer League and contributed to the club’s youth development programs. Notably, he guided Herentals FC U20 from Division 2 to Division 1 in the Northern Region Soccer League, proving his ability to nurture young talent and build winning teams.

From 2022 to 2024, Simbarashe held dual roles as the head coach of Herentals Queens and Herentals Academy. Under his leadership, Herentals Queens dominated the domestic league, clinching three consecutive titles and earning a bronze medal in the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers.

Herentals Academy, too, thrived under his guidance, securing two cup victories and consistently finishing as league runners-up. These achievements underscore his tactical acumen, leadership, and ability to motivate teams to achieve beyond expectations.

Simbarashe’s journey hasn’t been without obstacles. One of his biggest challenges has been uniting players with diverse skill levels and playing styles. Yet, his ability to foster discipline, teamwork, and a winning mentality has turned these challenges into opportunities for growth.

“My philosophy is simple: build teams that believe in themselves, work together, and aim for excellence. The results will follow,” he says.

Beyond personal success, Simbarashe is passionate about elevating Zimbabwean football. He advocates for investments in recreational facilities and sponsorships, which he believes are crucial for the sport’s growth. His dedication to nurturing young talent ensures a steady pipeline of skilled players ready to shine on bigger stages.

“Zimbabwe has immense football potential. With the right resources and commitment, we can achieve great things,” he emphasizes.

Simbarashe attributes much of his success to the unwavering support of the Herentals family and the visionary leadership of the club’s president, Honorable Innocent Dambudzo Benza. Their belief in his abilities has empowered him to grow and excel in every role he has undertaken.

Coach Simbarashe Dedza’s story is one of passion, hard work, and resilience. From his humble beginnings as a player to his decorated coaching career, he embodies what it means to succeed through dedication and vision.

For aspiring coaches, Simbarashe has a message: “Never stop learning. Experiment, take risks, and work tirelessly. Success doesn’t come easy, but it’s worth every effort.”

As he continues to strive for greatness, Simbarashe Dedza remains a beacon of inspiration for players, coaches, and football enthusiasts across Zimbabwe. With his eyes set on leaving a legacy of excellence, he proves that with determination and vision, anything is possible.
