Mambo Dhuterere's wife Appears in Court for Fraud Charges

Gospel artist Dorcas Vambe, popularly known as Mai Dhuterere, appeared before the Harare Magistrates' Court on Tuesday facing fraud charges. The singer was accused of duping a complainant in a botched car deal that involved promises of vehicles at duty-free prices.

Prosecutors allege that Vambe, along with her brother Kudakwashe Vambe, who is still at large, misrepresented to the complainant that they were selling a Toyota Hilux GD6.

The duo further claimed the complainant could acquire two vehicles for US$16 000, leveraging a supposed waiver granted to the singer by the President of Zimbabwe for her services to the nation.

The complainant reportedly handed over the money and received an affidavit committing to the delivery of the vehicles within two weeks. However, instead of the promised cars, Mai Dhuterere gave the complainant a Ford Ranger registered in Botswana, along with assurances of a Mercedes-Benz C200 to be delivered later. The deal unraveled when the Ford Ranger was impounded by police due to a lack of valid permits.

The court granted Vambe US$100 bail, and the matter has been remanded for further investigations.

This case has stirred public debate, with many expressing concerns over rising fraud allegations involving prominent figures. Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to combating corruption through stringent legal processes.
