Man Robs Teenager of Bicycle at Gunpoint

Zim Now Writer

A 30-year-old man from Bvirindi B in Chief Zimunya's area, Mutare, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for robbing a teenager of his bicycle at gunpoint.

Josiah Saungweme was convicted by the Mutare Magistrates’ Court for the crime, which occurred in September 2024.

The court heard that Saungweme approached the 17-year-old victim along the Marange-22 Miles road under the guise of seeking directions.

Saungweme then brandished a Blow F92 pistol and ordered the teenager to surrender his silver Buffalo bicycle. Fearing for his life, the teenager complied and later reported the incident to the police.

Following investigations, Saungweme was arrested and charged with armed robbery. His conviction and subsequent sentencing underscore the court's firm stance against violent crime.

Authorities have urged community members to report similar incidents promptly to help maintain public safety.
