Tefoma construction launches investigation into crane fall

Zim Now Reporter

Local Construction Company, Tefoma Construction joint venture, has launched an investigation into a fatal accident at the Trababalas interchange that claimed the life of a sub-contracting company, Manzlink (Pvt) Ltd employee on January 6.

The incident that was attributed to mechanical failure during the dismantling of a static tower crane by its contracted rigging specialist firm, has forced the company to look into various safety measure violations at the site, resulting in the death of one of its employee.

In a statement, Tefoma passed its condolences to the deceased’s family, emphasising its commitment to safety of its employees on site and support in unfortunate incidences.

“The incident occurred during the dismantling of a static tower crane by Manzlink (Pvt) Ltd (Manzlink), our contracted rigging specialist firm. The mechanical failure resulted in the collapse of both the static tower crane and the mobile crane being used for the de-erection process.

“The deceased was an employee of Manzlink, the specialist subcontracted company at the site. In cooperation with relevant authorities, a full investigation into the incident is currently underway,” the company wrote.

Tefoma is one of many local companies tasked with the construction of the interchange, which is expected to be completed in 2025.
