A 40-year-old man, David Kasuso, appeared before the Harare Magistrates' Courts on charges of theft involving a Ford Everest allegedly stolen in South Africa.
According to prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi, detectives from CID Vehicle Theft Squad (VTS) Harare received a tip-off on January 4, 2025, about a red Ford Everest with South African registration spotted at Murombedzi Growth Point, Zvimba.
Upon investigating, the vehicle was found in the possession of one Huggins Chiwara, who failed to produce ownership documents.
Further checks through the CVR database revealed no record of the vehicle. Chiwara claimed he had purchased the car from Kasuso and an accomplice, Matthias Magorenye, who remains at large.
On January 5, Chiwara led detectives to Jongwe Corner Bar in Hatfield, Harare, where Kasuso was apprehended.
During questioning, Kasuso allegedly disclosed that the car had been brought into Zimbabwe by Magorenye, who did not provide any documentation for it.
Subsequent checks through Interpol confirmed the vehicle was reported stolen in South Africa. Kasuso remains in custody as investigations continue.
