A 42-year-old woman, Talent Chetsanga, has been arraigned before the Harare Magistrates’ Courts on two counts of theft of trust property. The accused, known within church circles, allegedly embezzled funds meant for booking flights to Nigeria.
According to prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi, Chetsanga was entrusted by two complainants with a total of US$1,850 to facilitate flight bookings. On October 29, 2024, the first complainant sent her US$940 via internet banking after being referred to Chetsanga by church members. However, upon arriving at R.G. Mugabe International Airport on December 22, the complainant discovered that no booking had been made.
In a similar incident, another complainant sent US$910 to Chetsanga through EcoCash on October 18, 2024, for the same purpose. Like the first complainant, they were unable to travel on December 22 due to the absence of a flight booking.
The State alleges that Chetsanga converted the funds for personal use, leading to her arrest. She appeared before Magistrate Isheunesu Matova and awaits further court proceedings.
