Three Lupane families lost 16 beasts after they were struck by a bolt of lightning last Thursday in Mbembesi 1.
This comes as nine cattle were killed after a haulage truck ploughed through a herd in the Chimwara area in the same district.
In the Thursday incident, thirteen of the beasts belonged to one person while another family had two. One other family had one beast struck dead.
Kusile Rural District Councillor forward 23 Fibion Ngwenya said
“Yes, 16 cattle were struck dead by lightning in my ward. “They went to see the carcasses and could not do anything because culturally they cannot be burnt which happens even when a tree is struck by lightning.
Villagers reportedly dug a trench and buried the carcasses.
