The Zimbabwe Football Association has thrown its weight behind the Mighty Warriors as they prepare to face Angola in the Caf Women's Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier. ZIFA president Nqobile Magwizi has pledged the association's unwavering support for the team, urging them to make a statement on the continental stage.
"We stand firmly behind our Mighty Warriors as they prepare for this vital encounter," Magwizi said in a statement. "Their dedication to representing Zimbabwe with honour is truly commendable. As an association, we are committed to providing all necessary support to ensure their success."
The Mighty Warriors are bidding to emulate their male counterparts, the Warriors, who qualified for this year's edition of Afcon to be hosted by Morocco later this year. With ZIFA's backing, the team is poised to make a strong push for a spot in the Women's Afcon.
" Together, we believe we can achieve greatness and bring the Afcon dream closer to reality," Magwizi said. "We will do everything in our power to support the Mighty Warriors and ensure that they have the resources they need to succeed."
The team, under the guidance of head coach Sithethelelwe "Kwinji 15" Sibanda, has been preparing intensively for the qualifier. The Mighty Warriors will face Angola in Luanda on February 20 for the first leg, before hosting the return leg at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria, South Africa, six days later.
"We are determined to make Zimbabwe proud and secure our spot in the Women's Afcon," Sibanda said. "The players have shown exceptional commitment and passion from the onset. Our focus is on building a cohesive unit that plays with heart and purpose."
The team has been boosted by the return of several seasoned campaigners, including Black Rhinos quartet of Daisy Kaitano, Mavis Chirandu, Christabel Katona, and Rutendo Makore. Emmaculate Msipa, who plays for Ramat Hashron in Israel, has also made a welcome return to the fold.
