Midlands State University has suspended five students with immediate effect following allegations of misconduct.

The affected students have been ordered to vacate university premises as disciplinary measures take effect.

Among those suspended are Tanaka, Nester Moyo, Takunda Mhuka, Staut Gona, and Keegan Mathe.

The university accuses them of conducting an unsanctioned recruitment drive for their union, allegedly violating the MSU Rules of Student Conduct and Discipline.

The administration has maintained a firm stance against unauthorised activities on campus, emphasising the need for students to adhere to established protocols.

University regulations require any student organisation seeking to operate within the institution to obtain prior approval from the relevant authorities.

Reports indicate that the suspended students were actively engaging fellow learners in discussions related to their union without clearance from the university. This raised concerns within the administration, prompting swift action against them.

The suspension has sparked mixed reactions among students, with some expressing concerns over what they perceive as a crackdown on student activism. Others, however, believe rules must be followed to maintain order within the institution.

University authorities have not disclosed whether the students will be allowed to appeal the decision or if further disciplinary action will be taken.
