The Skylight Hotel shimmered with the vibrant energy of Africa's future as the fifth African Youth Leadership Diplomatic Conference (AYLDC5) drew to a close, leaving behind a trail of inspired minds and ambitious blueprints. Forget dusty lecture halls; this was a dynamic, pulsating hub of innovation, debate, and fervent hope, where over 300 young leaders converged to chart a new course for the continent.

Hosted by Intercontinental Youth Connect (IYC) and the Ethiopian Youth Dialogue for Peace Association (EYDPA), the three-day event, bathed in the warm Ethiopian sun, was a kaleidoscope of ideas and aspirations. Under the powerful banner, "A Pact for the New Spirit of Pan-Africanism through Globalization, Innovation-Led Economic Integration, and Peacebuilding," AYLDC5 became a crucible where the next generation of African leaders forged their vision.

The air crackled with anticipation as Pan-Africanist Professor PLO Lumumba took the stage. His words, a fiery elixir, ignited the audience. "Africa must reject dependency and embrace innovation!" he thundered, his voice resonating through the hall. "The youth of this continent must rise, not as mere participants, but as architects of Africa’s transformation!" The crowd erupted, a wave of agreement washing over the room, a testament to the shared desire for a self-reliant Africa.

Echoing Lumumba’s passionate call, Ethiopia’s Minister of Women and Social Affairs, Ergoge Tesfaye (PhD), emphasized the crucial role of youth empowerment. "The aspirations of Agenda 2063 will only be realized if we empower our youth with the skills, opportunities, and leadership roles they deserve," she declared, her voice filled with conviction.

Former Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn brought a sobering, yet vital perspective to the conversation. "Without stability, development is impossible," he stated, his words carrying the weight of experience. "Africa’s youth must be at the forefront of both peacebuilding and economic growth." His message resonated deeply, highlighting the intrinsic link between peace and prosperity.

Beyond the inspiring speeches, AYLDC5 was a workshop for change. Delegates rolled up their sleeves, diving into intensive policy drafting sessions. The focus? Two pivotal areas: leveraging the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) for economic integration and bolstering youth-led governance for peace and stability.

The room buzzed with the energy of collaborative problem-solving, as young minds wrestled with complex issues, crafting solutions that were both innovative and practical. The AfCFTA, a beacon of hope for intra-African trade, was dissected and reimagined, with delegates exploring ways to ensure its benefits reached every corner of the continent.

Simultaneously, discussions on youth-led governance were charged with a sense of urgency. The need for young people to be active participants in peacebuilding and decision-making was palpable, with delegates drafting resolutions aimed at creating inclusive and responsive governance structures.

As the conference concluded, a sense of accomplishment filled the air.
