A magistrate’s court has ordered Kudakwashe Madziri to pay US$120 per month in child support after his former partner, Purity Mhangwiro, sought financial assistance for their three children and her unborn baby.
Mhangwiro had requested US$300 to cover essential expenses, including food, electricity, transport, clothing, and preparations for the unborn child. She told the court that, as a hairdresser earning only US$40 per month, she struggles to provide for their children, aged 16, 12, and 3.
She claimed that Madziri had moved to a farm to live with his new wife, leaving her to shoulder the financial burden alone.
Madziri, however, disputed her claims, arguing that Mhangwiro and the children were still living in his house. He told the court that he is a self-employed welder earning between US$150 and US$200 per month.
The court heard that the couple’s dispute began just last week, and within days, Madziri had married another woman.
After reviewing both arguments, the magistrate ruled that he must pay $120 in maintenance each month, excluding school fees. The first payment is due on March 31, 2025.
