AFC Holdings Chief Financial Officer Desmond Shonhiwa appeared before the Harare Civil Court yesterday, where his former wife, Thandiwe Muchabaya, demanded US$2 800 for the upkeep of their four children.

Muchabaya told the court that Shonhiwa had failed to provide adequately for their children since last year.

“The money is for the children’s upkeep,” she said. “He stopped supporting them last year, and I no longer go to work.”

In his defense, Shonhiwa argued that his financial situation was constrained by other commitments, including supporting another child in Mabvuku and dealing with a pending Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission case.

“I earn US$450 and 3,300 ZiG,” he said. “I am also paying maintenance for another child and handling a pending ZACC case, where I am being charged US$500, which I am negotiating. On top of that, I took a loan from the bank and have taxes to pay.”

He offered to pay US$480 for the children, but Muchabaya rejected the offer, arguing that he was already paying US$300 for another child in Mabvuku.

“He received a bonus last month in February,” she claimed.

Shonhiwa denied the allegation, maintaining that his financial obligations left him with limited means.

The magistrate ordered both parties to return to court for further proceedings.
