The Southern African Development Community has reaffirmed its commitment to the Democratic Republic of Congo's (DRC) independence, peace, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. This comes as SADC Heads of State and Government convene virtually for an urgent Extraordinary Summit.

SADC Executive Secretary, Elias Magosi, emphasized the region's resolve to find lasting peace and security in the DRC, particularly in the eastern part of the country. He noted that the security and humanitarian situation in the region remains precarious and worrisome.

Magosi's remarks were made at the SADC Council of Ministers meeting in Harare, which was chaired by SADC Chairperson President Mnangagwa. The meeting aimed to rally member states in defense of the DRC Government's cause.

The SADC has been involved in various initiatives to promote peace and stability in the DRC, including the establishment of the Force Intervention Brigade (FIB) in 2013. The FIB, comprising troops from SADC countries, has been instrumental in stabilizing the eastern DRC and preventing mass atrocities.
