For Norest Chigombe, a determined student who worked tirelessly at his school to pursue his education, life took a hopeful turn after he was awarded a scholarship by Delta Corporation. Before receiving this financial lifeline, Norest faced the grim reality of missing his Ordinary Level examinations due to a lack of funds for registration.
It was only through the intervention of the school administration, which stepped in to pay his fees, that he was able to sit for his exams.
“I almost failed to write my exams because I had no money to register, but the administration came to my rescue,” Norest shared.
Despite his dedication, Norest’s academic journey has been an uphill battle. He revealed that his father has shown little interest in his education.
“My father doesn’t take education seriously. The only thing that matters to him is his mine. I am the last born, and all my brothers dropped out of school, yet he is still okay with that,” he said.
Norest is now among over 15 students who have benefited from Delta Corporation’s scholarship program, which supports learners progressing to Advanced Level and tertiary education. Speaking on behalf of Delta, General Manager Patricia Murambinda emphasized the company’s unwavering commitment to empowering young people through education.
“At Delta, we believe that education is the foundation of a brighter future—not just for individuals but for communities and the nation at large. That is why we remain committed to investing in young people,” she stated.
Murambinda explained that the scholarship is not just financial aid but a partnership aimed at fostering long-term success.
“This bursary is more than just financial support; it is a partnership between you and Delta Corporation. We are investing in your dreams because we believe that your success will contribute to the growth and development of our society,” she added.
Under this initiative, students proceeding to tertiary education will receive US$1 500 for tuition fees and a US$100 monthly pocket allowance. Those advancing to Advanced Level will be awarded US$500 towards school fees, along with a US$50 monthly allowance.
Mashingaidza Susan, the mother of scholarship recipient Munashe Mahuku, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Delta Corporation.
“I am so happy and I want to thank Delta for giving my daughter a scholarship. They do not discriminate against anyone, whether disabled or not, and they support students from all provinces,” she said.
Delta Corporation’s commitment stands as a beacon of hope, transforming the lives of students like Norest and Munashe, and reaffirming the power of corporate responsibility in shaping the nation’s future.
