Government has reaffirmed its commitment to gender equality in education and innovation, highlighting the pivotal role of women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

This commitment is reflected in the National Development Strategy 1, which prioritises inclusivity, equal opportunities, and the development of a knowledge-based economy.

"The NDS1 underscores the need for the country to develop a knowledge-based economy that taps into the potential of every citizen," the statement read.

Various government-backed programs are aimed at closing the gender gap in STEM fields, ensuring that women are not only included but also excel.

The Ministry of Education has prioritised integrating gender-sensitive approaches in curricula, as well as boosting research funding to amplify women’s contributions to national development.

Zimbabwe's policies also align with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4, which promotes quality education, and SDG 5, which focuses on gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.

"SDG 5 is at the core of the Ministry’s policies, providing equal access to education and leadership opportunities in science, technology, and innovation," the Ministry noted.

The upcoming Women in Science, Technology, and Innovation Conference is set to celebrate the achievements of women in STEM while inspiring the next generation of female leaders.

"Women have the power to transform their communities, industries, and nations through their contributions to science and technology," the statement added.

In supporting the WiSTI Conference, the government emphasized its ongoing effort to advance gender parity and encourage women’s leadership in shaping Zimbabwe’s future through science and innovation.

"This event is a call to action for women to not only take their place at the table but to lead with boldness, creativity, and resilience in driving our nation's sustainable development agenda."
