Mnangagwa Appoints Major General Emmanuel Matatu as New Army Commander

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has appointed Major General Emmanuel Matatu as the new Commander of the Zimbabwe National Army, promoting him to the rank of Lieutenant General with immediate effect.

According to a press statement from the Office of the President and Cabinet, Mnangagwa made the appointment in accordance with Section 216(2) of the Constitution, as well as Sections 89, 11(1)(a), and 11(4) of the Defence Act (Chapter 11:02).

The appointment, which was officially announced by Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr. Misheck Rushwaya, comes amid ongoing changes in the country's military leadership.
