Hyatt Regency Harare Meikles has unveiled a sweeping upgrade of its events facilities, reaffirming its status as Zimbabwe’s top destination for premium corporate and social functions.
The launch, attended by government officials and industry leaders, marked the completion of the second phase of the hotel’s ambitious refurbishment programme — a strategic push into the high-end events market.
“We have been under immense pressure from our users to re-open, and we are delighted that with effect from today we shall bring back to service several of our venues,” said General Manager Tinashe Munjoma at the launch.
The revamp introduces nine versatile venues to Meikles’ portfolio, including the iconic Stewart Rooms, three new spaces on the second floor of the north wing, one on the ground floor, and a medium-sized venue repurposed from the former La Fontaine restaurant. The latter can now accommodate up to 120 guests.
Designed for flexibility, comfort, and elegance, the new venues aim to meet rising demand for top-tier spaces that cater to conferences, product launches, exhibitions, and private functions.
“Our venues are physically attractive, well-furnished and equipped, and are designed to make users feel comfortable, safe and well looked after,” Munjoma said.
The upgraded event spaces can now host close to 700 people in different configurations, positioning Meikles as one of Zimbabwe’s largest and most versatile conference venues.
Complementing the indoor revamp is a refreshed outdoor venue by the pool terrace, overlooking Africa Unity Square. It is now open for weddings, garden parties and other luxury events.
Beyond the physical transformation, staff have undergone intensive training to align service delivery with global standards.
“We have continued to ensure that our staff are the best in the business, and their service offering complements the premium nature of the spaces they now run,” Munjoma said.
The latest facelift builds on Meikles’ legacy as the host of historic events — including the 1980 state banquet on the eve of Zimbabwe’s independence — while looking firmly toward the future.
“This is another significant step forward in the development of Hyatt Regency Harare Meikles,” said Munjoma. “The use of such spaces will enhance existing national infrastructure with a premium product that will satisfy the top end of the market.”
The final phase of the hotel’s refurbishment, targeting guest rooms and suites in the south wing, is already underway and expected to be completed before year end.
