A 41-year-old man from Kuwadzana 7, Harare, has been arraigned before the courts facing a murder charge after allegedly stabbing his friend to death during a dispute over beer.

Terence Rupiya appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts accused of fatally stabbing Moran Kumire during a heated altercation at his residence on April 17, 2025.

The court heard that on the morning of the incident, Rupiya, Kumire, and another friend, Mazvari Arnold, were drinking together at a shebeen in Kuwadzana 7 when they ran out of money to buy more beer.

Rupiya suggested going to his house nearby to collect more money and left with Mazvari—without informing Kumire. Feeling left out and suspicious, Kumire followed them and found them at Rupiya’s house.

An argument reportedly broke out, with Kumire accusing Rupiya of isolating him and taking Mazvari, who had been footing the beer bill. The confrontation escalated, with the two men shouting at each other in Mazvari’s presence.

Rupiya then allegedly ordered Kumire to leave, but when he resisted, Rupiya is said to have pushed him outside and stabbed him with a kitchen knife—once in the chest and again in the hand.

Mazvari intervened and managed to disarm Rupiya, who reportedly fled the scene as neighbours rushed to help. An ambulance was called, but Kumire was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Rupiya was arrested the same day in Whitecliff and remains in custody pending further court proceedings.
