Three men have appeared in court facing attempted murder charges after allegedly stabbing a man during a fight at Jaravaza Shops in Zvishavane earlier this month.

The accused, identified as Methias Danda, Marlon Munetsi, and Tinashe Sora, are alleged to have attacked Jayden Tikudzwe on August 18, stabbing him in the head and back.

Tikudzwe was rushed to hospital, where he remains admitted and is reportedly recovering slowly.

The suspects were arrested by the Zimbabwe Republic Police and made their initial court appearance on August 27. The case has been postponed to September 4 for trial.

During the hearing, only Danda and Munetsi appeared before the Zvishavane Magistrates’ Court. Their co-accused, Sora, was absent due to illness and was reportedly receiving medical treatment.

In his defence, Danda denied participating in the assault, insisting that he was only trying to break up the fight.

“As for me, I wasn’t fighting. I was trying to stop them from fighting. Even the complainant can confirm that,” he told the court.

Munetsi, however, admitted to being involved but denied using any weapons. “I only used open hands and kicked him,” he said.

Both men shifted blame to a third person, claiming that someone else was responsible for stabbing Tikudzwe. “The one who stabbed him is not among us. He’s not even in court,” Munetsi said.

The two accused were remanded in custody, with their trial set to continue next week.
