President Emmerson Mnangagwa will hold high-level discussions with executives from Russian diamond giant Alrosa at State House today (Wednesday) in a bid to expand strategic mining partnerships and accelerate economic growth.
The meeting, scheduled for 10:30 AM, follows Alrosa’s ongoing collaboration with the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) in exploration and value-addition initiatives. The Russian state-owned firm, a global leader in diamond production, has previously explored joint ventures to optimize Zimbabwe’s diamond sector.
Zimbabwe holds vast diamond reserves, primarily in the Chiadzwa region, but has faced challenges in maximizing returns due to limited technology and investment as well as poor regulation and corruption.
Alrosa’s expertise in exploration and cutting-edge extraction methods could bolster the sector’s productivity and global competitiveness.
