Zimbabwe delivered standout performances on day three of the IHF Zone 6 Handball Trophy, with both its U18 and U20 teams securing hard-fought victories.
In the U18 category, Zimbabwe overpowered Malawi 42–32 in a high-energy clash. The team demonstrated remarkable consistency and composure, securing their second consecutive win of the tournament and asserting themselves as title contenders.
Meanwhile, in the U20 division, Zimbabwe edged out South Africa 24–20 in a tightly contested battle. The encounter tested Zimbabwe's grit and tactical discipline, as they withstood South Africa’s aggressive offense.
Despite South Africa's dynamic play—marked by swift passes and precise shooting—Zimbabwe's strategy paid off. Anchored by a disciplined 4-2 defensive formation, the team executed well-timed interceptions and benefited from a series of crucial saves by the goalkeeper to keep their edge.
Coach Shemaiah Bota praised his squad's tactical discipline, saying, “We plan to continue our solid defense so that the opponent won't penetrate. Our players followed instructions well and executed the 4-2 formation with great discipline. I’m proud of their effort and focus throughout the match.”
Elsewhere, South Africa overwhelmed Lesotho 28–6 in the U18 category, while Malawi dismantled Namibia 45–7 in U20 action. Mozambique were handed a 15–0 walkover after Lesotho failed to appear for their scheduled match, and Zambia impressed with a 38–16 win over Eswatini.
With Zimbabwe's momentum growing, all eyes will be on their next fixtures as they push toward the top of the leaderboard.
