A 23-year-old man from Mbare has been hauled before the courts for unlawful possession of a firearm.

Leenon Kunze of Jorburg Lines appeared before Harare Magistrate Ruth Moyo charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm.

He admitted to the charge and is set to return to court on May 20 for plea recording.

According to the State, led by prosecutor Takudzwa Jambawu, detectives from the CID Braeside received a tip-off on May 6, 2025, around 7:30 PM that Kunze was in possession of a firearm without a licence.

The detectives tracked him down in the Jorburg Lines area where, after questioning, he led them to the recovery of a 9mm pistol.

The serial number on the firearm had been erased, and it was loaded with six rounds of live ammunition. The weapon was reportedly hidden in his right trouser pocket.

Kunze allegedly failed to produce a valid firearm licence.
